Trio Anima Mundi – ‘The Outsiders’
29 October 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm| Adult- $35/Concession- $25
Since its inception in 2008, Trio Anima Mundi has been presenting concerts that bring an eclectic mix of repertoire from the great masters to little-known works. Praised as a ‘trio of vitality, charm and aplomb’ (The Age), the Trio’s members – Kenji Fujimura (Piano), Rochelle Ughetti (Violin), Noella Yan (Cello) – are seasoned performers and have gained a reputation for excellence and a sumptuous sound world.
Trio Anima Mundi returns to Geelong for their next concert THE OUTSIDERS – presenting works by three composers who were considered separate from the ‘mainstream’ at various times during their compositional career, whether it be due to geographical isolation (Haydn) or for their political views (Boughton and Schnittke). Haydn’s tenth trio opens the programme, followed by a charming miniature by the Englishman Rutland Boughton. A moment in Alfred Schnittke’s chameleon-like musical output is captured in his Trio, presented side-by-side with a freshly-minted work – the winning work of the 2017 Trio Anima Mundi International Composition Prize.
Rutland Boughton (1878-1960) Celtic Prelude (1917)
Alfred Schnittke (1934-1998) – Trio for violin, violoncello and piano
TAM 2017 Composition Prize-winning work- ‘Natural Instincts’ by Ryan Grogan (world premiere)
Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) – Piano Trio No.10 in A Major, Hob.XV/35 (1771)
