Open Studio / #Vacant Geelong Project

Posted 20 April 2017

Artists are invited to participate in the Open Studio event for the #Vacant Geelong project.

#VacantGeelong is a project that responds directly to vacant industrial spaces and the memories that have shaped what it has meant to live in Geelong. Five artists selected for their diverse practices will develop artistic works with a focus on Ford. A core part of this project will be developing a collaborative studio space through a programme of engagement with emerging local artists, the Geelong community, and past Ford workers. The artistic works will be exhibited in the industrial precinct of North Geelong.

This event will be a discussion of the works (in progress) of the five artists involved:

Selected professional artists:

  • Bindi Cole Chocka –Film, portrait photography, installations
  • Sarah Duyshart– Installation/sound Artist
  • Merinda Kelly – Installation Artist and Social Practice
  • Robert Mihajlovski – Woodcut Printer, Visual artist
  • Amanda Shone – Installation Artist

The aim of the Open Studio is to engage local artists in the project, to introduce them to the five artists and to engender a lively artistic community in Geelong with a focus on the industrial spaces, structures and histories and memories.
