What is on offer?
St John of God Geelong Hospital is seeking expressions of interest from local artists to establish the CARTWHEELS project at our hospital.
One of the areas of arts activity SJGHC is committed to is to ‘establish arts projects that actively engage those in our care as creative makers’ and in a way that supports health, healing and ‘recovery’.
St John of God Geelong Hospital would like to engage a suitably qualified Artist to establish a new arts and health initiative within the hospital – the CARTWHEELS Project.
In the first three months, the project will be established in the Rehabilitation and Medical/Oncology Units. This stage will also be evaluated.
The second phase will see the project expand to other Clinical Units and will include collaboration with a team of volunteers selected for their substantial art experience.
The CARTWHEELS Project is based on similar projects at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC), Adelaide; the Chris O’Brien Life House and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and the St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital.
Plans are now underway for the Artist to work with a team of Volunteers with arts experience to expand the Project to other Units at the request of Nurse Managers.
In all examples, art work made by patients has been showcased along the way.
