What is on offer?
Bellarine Catchment Network (BCN) is an integrated network of 25 community groups and organisations.
Entering its 20th year, the network is responsible for community involvement and education relating to
environment and biodiversity values and threats on the Bellarine.
This will be the 3rd event in the ‘Biodiversity in YOUR Backyard’ series. The previous themes were Flora
and Fauna attracting 150 and 160 audience members respectively.

Event Details – Biodiversity in YOUR Backyard – Art and the Environment

Expression of Interest (EOI) Process, Submission and Selection
- The Biodiversity in YOUR Backyard – Art and the Environment will be an inspirational event.
- Art themes are as flexible and visionary as the artist/s and their idea/s. This may include, painting,
drawing, song, music, poetry, audio visual, video, photography, sculpture, murals, and more.
- The EOI is for an artist to showcase their art work / piece and then provide a 15 minute
(approximately) description and presentation of their work to the audience of approximately 150. This will provide the audience with an understanding of how an artist creates their work. If you like, a portal into their mind and creative process. Information including; the
origin of the art work, development process, what it means to them, how it makes them feel, what
they are hoping for from the work.
- Through this, the presenters should look to inspire the audience members and through their art theme/s develop an emotional response.
- Celebrating the Bellarine and Geelong regions biodiversity, environment, land and seascape values is a priority of the event.
Any art style and theme can be considered examples include painting, drawing, song, music, poetry, audio visual, video, photography, sculpture, murals, and more. Work/s will be shown or presented in the Potato Shed Theatre.
The artist will be required to show their work and a provide 15 minute presentation on their work / art piece.
Up to $500 is available for each artist depending on associated costs
The geographical refence for art works / pieces should be primarily the Bellarine Peninsula. Secondary reference can be the Geelong area.
Topics should reflect biodiversity values that relate to the Bellarine including flora, fauna and landscape.
They can be terrestrial, marine, or freshwater.
Your work can be a historical piece, something you have created previously, whether 1 week, 1 year or 10 years old – does not matter, it can be considered.
Or, your art piece / work can be specifically created for our event.
The event is supported by the Corangamite CMA, City of Greater Geelong Art and Culture and The Potato Shed.
Artist selection will be through a selection panel made up of the supporting organisations.
