Description of Venue

KUBU Studio, Geelong’s newest and most vibrant community arts space, will be hosting its Launch Party on Friday 23 October 2015.

Featuring headlining performances from Alice Ivy, The Living Eyes and The Underhanded, the KUBU Studio Launch Party is set to be an incredible night of entertainment, art and celebration.

Designed to provide a platform and voice for the youth and young adults of Geelong, KUBU Studio will be opening its doors to the community of Geelong as a space for expression, acceptance and community.

KUBU Studio, run by a team of dedicated volunteers, is determined to establish a hub for Geelong’s youth and young adults to learn, grow, connect, and inspire. We are committed to exploring contemporary issues facing Geelong’s youth and young adults in a safe and supportive environment, connecting people through the arts, and working with the community for the community.

Founding Director Emma Bottomley says, ‘We have so much talent in Geelong. KUBU Studio will become a key venue in providing access to those who need the platform and exposure, and a peer support training ground for students in the arts.’

KUBU Studio will be holding a variety of events to engage with the Geelong community and improve social cohesion. Panel discussions, art exhibitions, fashion shows and film nights are already on the agenda, and will be open to the public. KUBU Studio is also available for hire for private events.

With a long term connection to Indonesia, KUBU Studio will be showcasing the artworks of two Indonesian artists, Ryan Ady Putra and Okta Samid, at the Launch Party, and will be screening video messages from Indonesian artists currently based in Yogyakarta and Denpasar.

Courtney Saville, Manager of Arts and Cultural Engagement, says, ‘We are excited to engage with youth and young adults of Geelong to explore contemporary issues they are facing, and to establish a strong partnership with Indonesia for improved cultural understanding and exchange.’

It is the intention of KUBU Studio to assist in strengthening the Australia-Indonesia bilateral relationship, through people-to-people links, youth interaction and cultural exchange.
