The Barwon Heads Arts Council Inc. (BHAC) was established in February 2013 as a not-for-profit incorporated organisation with the following aims:
- To develop an arts hub for artists and the community to come together;
- To promote the importance of creative education though workshops, events and festivals;
- To promote the arts throughout the Bellarine Peninsula.
Community Arts Hub.
Our vision is to establish a sustainable Community Arts Hub. It is an inclusive vision that will support all local artists; the visual arts, music, drama, theatre, dance, poetry and literature. A community that values the arts enhances local identity and uniqueness. We believe art is a catalyzing symbol of the people as a community.
Barwon Heads is an arts town lacking a dedicated Community Arts Hub for its increasing population. Year round activity at the Community Arts
Hub will provide significant annual economic growth for the community. This will boost local tourism and business in Barwon Heads and take advantage of the region’s natural beauty.
BHAC Events in 2014
So far this year BHAC has organised arts activities at local events such as Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea and Ocean Grove Festivus. BHAC was delighted to be a community partner in regional arts event M~M2014 and held many workshops to produce art work and performances for the event. Four hundred lanterns were made for the Bluff Star Lantern Walk with the enthusiastic assistance of Barwon Heads Primary School.
We have held a family raku pot firing day, “Meet the Authors” writers day, a life drawing class as well as an afternoon of yoga, belly dancing and drumming. Children’s Artsplay events have also been organised. All BHAC events have been booked out with waiting lists.
