Biography

Doorstep Arts is an independent performing arts company committed to producing innovative and unique theatre. The company’s mission is to envisage, create and inspire through collaboration in all art forms to achieve an exceptional standard of entertainment and create awareness to challenge audience views and understanding.  

The name Doorstep has been synonymous with the highest quality independent theatre and the nurturing of new talent for the past two decades.  

The award winning youth theatre company, Doorstep Productions was founded in 1993 by Doorstep’s Artistic Director, Darylin Ramondo.  As a natural progression, Doorstep Ensemble followed in 2007 as an independent professional theatre company.  

Well established Australian performers including Natalie O’Donnell (Mama Mia), Amy Lehpamer (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Simon Gleeson (Les Miserables), Eddie Perfect (Shane Warne: The Musical), Bert LaBonte (MTC) and many more have graced the stages of Doorstep’s productions.  

The newly evolved Doorstep Arts represents the growth of this creative and innovative company as it expands its distinctive repertoire to include community arts and cultural development projects, serving to further enrich the cultural identity of the wider community.  

Doorstep Arts’ past projects include The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Three Sides as well as the recent critical acclaimed success Next to Normal.   

Doorstep is currently in creative development on its community cultural development project Dare to be Faceless  involving Geelong’s African community, in association with COGG and Diversitat.   

DARYLIN RAMONDO

Artistic Director   

Darylin Ramondo is the founder/director of highly successful theatre companies Doorstep Productions, Doorstep Ensemble and the newly formed visual and performing arts company, Doorstep Arts. Darylin has been involved in professional and community theatre for many years.  

In her role as Artistic Director, Darylin regularly collaborated between artists across multiple art forms including actors, art teachers, sculptors, designers, choreographers, directors, writers, musicians etc on various creative projects, both large and small scale. Artist in Schools programs including involving whole communities on relevant arts projects   Darylin has directed numerous productions including Cats, Romeo and Juliet, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, Chicago, Into The Woods, My Fair Lady and Convict. Darylin has been nominated eight times by the Victorian Music Theatre Guild as Director of the Year and was the Winner of the Award in 2001 for Doorstep’s Award Winning, Chicago.  She has also had the honor of being guest director for three Victorian Music Theatre Guild Award presentations.  

More recently Darylin has directed Doorstep Arts’critically acclaimed production of Next to Normal as well as The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World and A One Night Stand with Eddie Perfect and was the producer for Doorstep’s The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee and Three Sides.  

Darylin also works part time with the internationally acclaimed Back to Back Theatre Company as Executive Assistant to Artistic Director and Executive Producer
