Calling Artists/Designers/Makers!

Story Hubs is a partnership-based collaboration that prioritises student decision making and agency. Over three years, 100 Story Building works alongside schools and community partners to deliver a creative, co-designed space, and professional learning to embed creative literacy approaches into everyday teaching and learning.

In 2020, we launched three co-designed Story Hubs at Meadows Primary School (Broadmeadows), Sunshine Primary School (Sunshine) and Copperfield College (Kings Park). This year, we’re looking to try something a little bit different.

We are seeking an artist/designer/maker to co-design and ‘build’ a Story Hub alongside students and teachers at Whittington Primary School and St Leonards Primary School. But instead of a single, physical, fixed space, we imagine this Story Hub to be experiential, accessible simultaneously by both schools and collectively shared. We expect this form to be co-designed with the students and teachers of both schools.

We would like each hub to reflect the diverse approaches and ideas of each partner school, with the unifying principles of plausible, potential, practical and site-specific to be enacted in the design. The final form must also reflect a high quality professional output in response to student ideas and decisions.

Draft timeline

May – 100 Story Building facilitates initial sessions with teachers and students in each partner school to co-design concepts for their collective hub.
Jun – Designer briefed and participates in a further 2-3 co-design sessions with a working group of students and teachers, alongside 100 Story Building facilitators.
Jul – Design finalised
Aug-Sep – Hub build
Sep 15th – Hub launch
Dec – Hub review

Project budget – $5000 for labour and materials (the build)
Fee for design and participation in co-design sessions (to be negotiated, depending on experience)

We’d love to hear from artists/designers/makers of any discipline who can deliver a high-quality, co-designed and robust Story Hub for our partner schools, and have excellent skills in co-design, conceptualising, designing and making creative experiences. Experience with children and young people will be highly regarded, and a Working With Children check compulsory. We’d love to find a person (or collective) who are local to our schools in the Greater Geelong area, as an on-going artistic partnership is possible.

Please contact Jessica Tran, Story Hubs Manager, for more information – send me a short intro, list of relevant experience and links to or examples of your work!
