Fancy a Classic French Film and just can’t get enough?
…I know I sure do, and Alliance Francaise de Geelong has done it again…
Jean de Florette is Claude Berri’s stunning adaption of the novel of the same name, by the great Marcel Pagnol.
Screening at Village Cinema’s this weekend this will be a film you will not want to miss !
City-dweller Jean de Florette (Gérard Depardieu) moves his family to the Provence countryside in the 1920s to forge a new life as a farmer. However greedy neighbour, Le Papet (Yves Montand), schemes with his simple-minded nephew, Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil), to bankrupt Jean de Florette so that they can acquire the land for themselves. They therefore set out to ensure the novice farmer never discovers an all-important natural spring on the property.
Claude Berri; the film and its cast received numerous nominations for awards in every category in France and internationally.
Winning the César and National Academy of Cinema awards in France, the BAFTA awards in Great Britain and the Golden Globes Awards in the U.S.A this film is one that you will want to see !
