Clever and creative launches our future

As the region continues to address the challenges of the twenty-first century, last weeks launch of Greater Geelong: A Clever and Creative Future marks an exciting and significant chapter in Greater Geelong’s modern history.

Attended by the Minister for Local Government the Honourable Natalie Hutchins and 150 members of the Greater Geelong community, the launch publically acknowledged the vision document as a community-led blueprint for the region to be recognised regionally, nationally and internationally, as clever and creative.

Based on the feedback of more than 16,000 people, Greater Geelong: A Clever and Creative Future will be a key resource for the incoming Council, other organisations, businesses and anyone wanting to make a genuine contribution to Greater Geelong.

The Greater Geelong community will also have an important role in delivering the vision by being involved in initiatives that support it and holding our future leaders accountable for its implementation.

The launch coincided with celebrations marking the centenary of City Hall’s iconic façade, and included a ceremony to bury a time capsule near City Hall, to be opened in 2047.

Doctor Kathy Alexander – Administrator Chair said, “The diversity of the people involved, their commitment to the process and passion for Greater Geelong makes this document a strong and durable platform to guide future decision-makers.  This piece of work makes clear to investors that Geelong has a long-term vision and knows how to get there. Future Councils can demonstrate the stability and direction required for their investment.”
