COVID Safe summer update for the arts sector

Victoria has now transitioned into the COVIDSafe Summer restrictions. These eased restrictions will enable Victorians get back to doing the things they love, while also protecting everything we have worked so hard to achieve this year.

See below the latest key updates and reopening guidelines for the Arts Sector sourced from the Victorian Government Coronavirus Guidelines.

  • You must carry a face mask with you when you leave home.
  • Wearing a face mask is strongly recommended indoors and outdoors when you can’t keep 1.5 metres distance from other people.

There are also changes to the number of people allowed at community facilities such as libraries, sporting facilities, and entertainment facilities see below.

Indoor Entertainment Venues, Outdoor Entertainment Venues & Museums/Galleries:

  • Includes performing arts and music venues, zoos, outdoor cinemas.
  • Open with COVIDSafe requirements: 75 per cent fixed seated capacity up to 1000 patrons, density limits of one per two square metres if using electronic record keeping. Otherwise density limit of one per four square metres applies if using manual record keeping. Venues with capacity over 500 must publish COVIDSafe Plan.
  • I am an entertainer/performer can I perform at venues or public spaces?

Yes. Entertainers and performers can perform in various settings under the Last Step. The restrictions on performances vary, depending on the venue or space where the performance is to take place and the type of performance.

  • Can I run a festival or event in Victoria?

Public Events may occur in accordance with the Public Events Framework. A public event is an organised public gathering for a common purpose which is conducted on a one-off or periodic basis, open to members of the public, publicly announced or advertised, and may be subject to specific license, approvals or permits. Public events will be assessed according to their scale, complexity and associated risk factors. A three-tiered system will be used to ensure the appropriate level of public health oversight is applied to public events.

Creative Studios

  • Open with COVIDSafe requirements: density limit of one per two square metres if using electronic record keeping. Otherwise density limit of one per four square metres applies if using manual record keeping.
  • Can I teach art, acting or music class in my studio?

If the class cannot be taught remotely from your home, you can teach students in a studio, including if your studio is in your home.
