Ariana Luca / The Seven Seas / Shane Drinkwater
19 March - 12 April
Ariana Luca / Unfold, Fragment and Disperse
Unfold, Fragment and Disperse explores how non-representational drawing and painting processes can trace the physical movements, gestures and decisions of the artist. Through a series of works on paper and board, Ariana Luca investigates how her own practice of constructing abstract compositions is captured and reflected within the surfaces of the works themselves.
Ariana Luca is an emerging artist who recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT University. She works primarily in watercolour, gouache and pencil on paper, using collage and paper cutting techniques to create abstract compositions. Her work explores the fragmentation and distortion of forms and a juxtaposition between finely detailed drawings and fluid abstract gestures.
The Seven Seas / Get a Grip
The Seven Seas is a Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist working in illustration and sculpture.
He has recently made the shift from figurative to abstract work, focusing on bold colours and large forms created out of timber using power tools and computerised routers.
In this new exhibition, he explores his past works through memories and photographs and applies them in new ways using sculpture and painting.
Shane Drinkwater / Quietly Spoken
“To create abstract landscapes, topographical or astronomical maps, and coded networks Shane
Drinkwater employs his own language of lines, dashes, and dots. His pieces resemble maze-like
systems with each symbol flooded with personal meaning. The ambiguity of each mark and the
composition allow viewers to project their own perceptions as they try to inspect, unlock, and
decode his language. Drinkwater creates textures through repetition, often times reading as fabric
or quilted material. The journey viewers eyes take when traveling through his pieces simulates the
fleeting choices our minds are forced to make on a day to day basis.” – Sardine Gallery, Brooklyn, NY USA
Tasmanian born artist Shane Drinkwater has exhibited widely within Australia
(Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide…), also in Paris, New York and is also
represented in Denmark by Copenhagen Outsider Art Gallery.
