Building Sustainable Food Systems for our Community
Saturday, March 21 at Big Boom
Meet the pioneers who are designing, developing and creating more sustainable food systems and other initiatives that are bringing our community together. Big Boom will host presentations from individuals, groups and businesses leading the way to a healthier Geelong. Urban agriculture provides a real opportunity to grow food close to where it is consumed. This can create a closed loop and minimise any harmful waste generated throughout the process. See how these food-centred design initiatives are happening right here in Geelong and our involvement in this global movement.
Join us for the talk/presentation only or stay and enjoy a shared lunch with our guest speakers which will celebrate some of our regions best produce.
Option 1 – Talk/Presentation only (FREE) 10:30am – 12noon
Option 2 – Talk/Presentation 10:30am – 12noon with lunch included ($40) 12:30pm – 2pm

This event is part of Geelong Design Week 2020, an initiative of Geelong UNESCO City of Design and the City of Greater Geelong.

From an international career in automotive design, artist Yan Huang has established a studio at Anakie. Working with a team of local fabricators, she works without constraint, apart from her own need to express and create. Yan’s current work is sinuous, robust, polished, and exploratory: there’s a whisper of practicality and playfulness about the pieces. The suite of materials is open-ended: metals, stone, wood, glass, polymers.
In this show at Boom Gallery, the artist’s aim is to present us with the every-day and familiar, but with a fresh perspective. We’re being given the opportunity to look beyond the obvious. In this exhibition we are playfully tricked: we’re gently challenged to explore the boundaries of form and function.
Meet Yan on Saturday March 28 from 1-2pm at Big Boom. More info click here.
