Geelong’s 20th Century self-guided heritage walking package 2
30 September @ 9:00 am - 30 December @ 5:00 pm| $8 plus 50c booking fee
CBD Walking tour booklet again available – Highlights of Geelong’s 20th Century Architecture.
Exercise minds and bodies – take a 20th Century Architecture CBD Walking Tour through Geelong, Australia’s only UNESCO City of Design.
The Geelong and Region Branch of the National Trust (GRBNT) developed the tour as a guided walk, intended to be held during UNESCO Design Week 2020 (cancelled due to COVID-19), producing this booklet for walkers.
It has sold well online and is now reprinted with a tour map. It will be available from Trybooking until December 30 and will make a great gift.
Armed with the booklet, choose your own time to view some of the City’s 20th Century buildings and to discover a little about their architects.
Begin and end the Walk at the Beaux Arts Hitchcock Memorial Bandstand, Johnstone Park, in Gheringhap St., Geelong. It takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours; also allow time to have a coffee and to view the interiors of the cafes shown on the map. You will see some of our Art Deco, Moderne, Federation Freestyle, Renaissance Revival and Brutalist buildings in Fenwick, Lt Malop, Gheringhap, Ryrie, Moorabool and Malop Sts.
The 20th Century Walk package will be posted to you and includes
- the pocket-sized illustrative booklet Some Highlights of Geelong’s 20th Century Architecture
- a bonus list of interesting 20th Century domestic, commercial and industrial buildings outside the CBD in suburban Geelong (walk or drive).
After seeing the CBD series of 20th Century buildings, walkers can use the list of interesting places provided to guide explorations in suburban Geelong to find last century’s developments.
