Meet the Northcote Penguins (a virtual event)
25 November @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Celebrate Inclusion week with the Northcote Penguins, part of Arts Project Australia.
Join this specialised group of nine Arts Project studio artists online to view their individual arts practice, hear about what goes into making their art, and join a conversation that mixes the personal and professional with a touch of humour, music, Netflix and relaxed fun!
Arts Project Australia is a creative social enterprise that supports artists with intellectual disabilities, promotes their work and advocates for their inclusion within the broader contemporary art sector.
Their Professional Practice Program works with nine Arts Project studio artists each week to engender an in-depth collaborative investigation of each individual’s arts practice. Running on Wednesdays, the program offers each artist the chance to develop and learn some new skills that may be applied to their practice while building their career as an artist. The Northcote Penguin’s aim for the Professional Practice Program is to develop and engage each participating artist in a deeper understanding and appreciation of their own arts practice, and that of their contemporaries within the broader visual arts environment. As with many previous 20th century movements, The Northcote Penguins have formed an identity through developing the group name collaboratively and writing a group manifesto:
“We believe in developing our individual styles, through looking back at history and looking forward at contemporary art. Our discussions as a group are what drives new ideas, in collaboration we grow our art practice as individuals.”
