Melbourne Design Week in Geelong – The Echo of Country – Jefa Greenaway – Making Sense of Place and Cultural Connection to Community
23 March @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
In partnership with the Geelong Regional Library Corporation, the City of Greater Geelong are pleased to present this singular opportunity to meet and hear leading Indigenous architect and educator Jefa Greenaway discuss the topic of giving agency to Indigenous voices through design.
Jefa’s timely keynote address occurs as we collaborate with our community to achieve a vision for a clever and creative future in which our Wadawurrung leaders’ connection to this city-region and community is strengthened. We are delighted to welcome Jefa to our city to explore how the intersection of memory, cultural narratives, history and the built environment can empower and celebrate the connection to Indigenous culture and showcase Indigenous knowledge, demonstrating respect and embedding cultural significance beyond clichés and stereotypes.
Geelong’s designation as Australia’s first and only City of Design is based on our strong Indigenous cultural heritage and the outstanding design achievements of the region’s Wadawurrung people.
