My Place, My Home, My Family – Refugee Photography Art Project
20 June 2016 - 21 July 2016
Held at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre 20th June to 21st July
Diversitat has been able to provide a wonderful opportunity to a group of asylum seekers living in the Geelong community, utilising a Community Arts Grant from the City of Greater Geelong.
The project, My Place, My Home, My Family, has provided a platform for asylum seekers to highlight and develop their skills, and to tell their stories of settling in Geelong, through photography.
The project is designed to provide a positive experience helping them reconnect with themselves, their family and heritage within the theme of My Place, My Home, My Family. Most importantly the project aims for participants to regain a sense of self-worth and belonging in the community.
Training is provided by local professional photographer Ben Neoh through a series of workshops to develop new photographic and digital story telling skills. These workshops have enabled participants to create wonderful images that will be on display in the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre during Refugee Week and until 21st July
This project is a major event as part of Diversitat’s 40 Year celebrations in 2016 and an event during Refugee Week
