‘Our Ned’ – First Librarian of the Geelong Public Library

23 April @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Event Navigation

As part of the 2019 Australian Heritage Festival, ‘meet’ the first Librarian of the Geelong Public Library, Mr Edward Purdue (played by Ben Mitchell from Geelong Repertory Theatre Company). In this theatrically-inspired presentation, Dr Coralie Jenkin presents the story of the rather rascally ‘Our Ned’, who in 1878 absconded with Geelong Library funds, abandoning his wife in the process. Join us for an exposé of one of Geelong’s most colourful public characters.
