“Reflections of You” Kim Doherty @ The Papermill Gallery
6 September @ 10:00 am - 13 October @ 4:00 pm
The Papermill Gallery is hosting an exhibition of Textile Artist, Kim Doherty’s beautiful and creative work.
About her work, Kim says:-
In my extremely diverse practice, I am constantly teasing out new ideas, and employing new and various materials, in the pursuit of what Textile Art is, and can be.
Using materials such as wire, metal and monofilament, with textile techniques such as weaving, knitting, knotting and coiling, is a particular passion; putting a contemporary spin on what is essentially an ancient craft.
Connection to the environment is undoubtedly significant inspiration to me. When one connects physically and emotionally with one’s environment, it can’t help but manifest itself in one way or another. Living by the sea definitely influences my creative practice, particularly the constantly changing colours, moods, and shapes. The sea also throws up flotsam and jetsam treasures, as does a decaying built environment. These weather-beaten, gnarled and erode shapes and objects find relationships in my work.
Being part of, and seeing the big picture, but honing in on the micro presents a whole new world of incredible texture and colour; a perfect backdrop for my multi-media pieces.
I see my work as much of a reflection of me as it is of you.
Opening day is Sunday 8 September, 1.30 til 4pm (the exhibition will continue to mid October). Come along on Sunday and meet Kim and enjoy a glass of wine & nibbles, and her beautiful work.
