Central Geelong will come alive with the magic of stories at this year’s Storyfest – Saturday 6 April to Thursday 18 April 2019.
Storyfest is Central Geelong’s 13 day festival celebrating storytelling in all its forms. Children of all ages can enjoy and create their own stories and works of art through theatre, music, poetry, books, live performances, author talks, oral storytelling, technology, visual arts, craft and lots of fun.
You’ll find over 100 activities, workshops, exhibitions and competitions happening in multiple venues across Central Geelong. Highlights of the program include these free activities:
Sonic Monsters – Combining bespoke interactive sound technology and street art paste up aesthetic, Sonic Monsters is a unique visual arts and sound design workshop experience. Design, draw and colour your own monster, paste it on the wall and listen to it come alive with with sound. This activity is suitable for all ages. Parents may need to assist younger children.
Little Wooden Caravan: Shared Table Stories – Step inside Jacques, a handmade 1950s wooden caravan and experience a 6 minute story with a difference. Listening on headsets, an evocative soundscape sets the scene for the story to come. During the story each person follows a unique set of instructions to find and animate objects on the table. Like a talking book brought to life, between paragraphs you are invited to explore the drawers and cupboards to reveal new objects and a new twist to the story.
The Nylon Zoo – The Nylon Zoo is an interactive children’s experience featuring a magical giant inflatable turtle story-telling theatre. Join us as we enter a fantastical story Zoo-niverse… Bookings required.
Bebop Circus – Most of us have heard the story of running away to join the circus, well now you have the chance to do it. Join the Bebop ‘pop up’ Circus, you can learn how to spin a plate, juggle, hula hoop as well as many other circus skills in a fun and interactive experience. As well as circus skills Nicholas Ridiculous will be performing his ‘Krazy Koala Puppet Show’ and his ‘Kids Circus Comedy Show’. There’ll be giant bubbles and a roving stilt walker to add to the fun of this event.
