Under Cerulean Skies – Moyra Le Blanc Smith and Margaret Torney
2 April 2015 @ 10:00 am - 28 April 2015 @ 4:00 pm
Under Cerulean Skies by Moyra Le Blanc Smith and Margaret Torney is the feature exhibition for April at art@wintergarden. Opening Easter Saturday 4 April this is one exhibition not to be missed!
Together for the second time, Le Blanc Smith and Torney have this time been inspired by light. Margaret sees herself as a romantic painter striving for atmospheric effect in her work and communicating the effects of light particularly on flowers.
Where Le Blanc Smith has been inspired by the impossibly blue sky found in outback Australia where she has travelled extensively; “The scenery of the outback inspires most of my paintings in the exhibition. The joy of absorbing the visual feast of vibrant colours, red rock faces, cool water, shapes of the gnarled old gums with their pale green foliage and smooth, pale, trunks and twisted branches. The feeling of the warm breeze, the sound of the birds and of course the cerulean sky is what I am attempting to convey in my paintings. I also paint flowers and I’m fascinated by the abstract shapes of every day garden flowers. Local scenes and seascapes are also included. I paint in oils as I love the tactile feel of the paint and bright colours”.
Born in Melbourne, Torney exhibits widely and has won numerous prizes and has participated in solo and group shows. Torney’s work was accepted and hung in the prestigious Alice Bale Exhibition. Her paintings are represented in many private collections, both in Australia and overseas. Torney has travelled and painted extensively in Canada, Alaska the U.S., Great Britain and Europe. She is presently working in watercolour, pastel, acrylic and oil.
Le Blanc Smith and Torney collaborated last year for a very successful first exhibition at Eagles Nest Gallery in Aireys Inlet, Victoria. “Although our styles of art are very diverse, we both inspire each other in different ways”. This year they bring an exciting new body of work to art@wintergarden, one which reflects on their travels, experiences and passions.
Under Cerulean Skies at art@wintergarden runs from Thursday 2 until Tuesday 28 April, 2015.
Free entry and gallery open 10am – 4pm daily.
