Watercolour Demonstration – Nell Frysteen
7 March 2020 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm| $20 per person inc. light refreshments
Demonstration Series – 1st Saturday of the month
For the second session of our Demonstration Series, Artisans of Australia are excited to welcome Nell Frysteen to the studios, presenting a demonstration on her use of watercolour.
During this session Nell will explore the medium of watercolour, taking you through her technique and the way that she takes a perceived visual field and translates it into coloured paint.
This demonstration has limited spaces, so you will be able to watch closely and gain first hand experience of Nell’s practices. Nell has won many awards during her career, not least of which was the 2007 Annie Davison Oliver Award from the Melbourne Society of Women Painters & Sculptors, as well as her acclaimed national and international commissions.
Nell creates representational paintings that incorporate some of the stylistic attributes of abstraction, frontality, large scale, high key colour and guesture. “To me the paintings look ‘real’ as opposed to ‘realistic’. Cezanne’s Mont Sainte Victoire doesn’t look like the mountain, the Mont Sainte Victoire looks like the painting Cezanne made of it.”
The choice of subjects is made by both her visual and intuitive personal responses to the whole or part of the objects. She does not paint an object because it is attractive and fits in with good taste or style, preferring people to respond to the paintings qualities rather than the subject matter’s innate attractiveness.
Nell’s style and characteristic approach to watercolour is a delight to watch, and we are sure that after this demonstration you will be keen to explore this medium in even more depth.
Head down to the studios to reserve and pay for your space, or visit the Artisans of Australia store to purchase online.
