Geelong Arts Centre Welcomes Back Break-out Star Mary Coustas

Mary Coustas AKA Effie is returning to her old stomping ground, Geelong, where her acting career began and thus… A Star Was Born.

Everyone’s favourite gregarious Greek goddess Effie (the colourful comic creation of Acropolis Now’s big-haired, break-out star Mary Coustas) is back on the road with her latest show Effie in Love Me Tinder.

Saturday 4th April at the Geelong Arts Centre will be the first time Effie has put on a show in Geelong, so it’s sure to be a hoot. Since her days studying drama at Deakin, Mary has garnered numerous awards, including a Logie, an ARIA award with Norman Gunston, as well as sold-out national tours of Star Wogs in 2018, and her critically acclaimed one-woman show: Effie the Virgin Bride in 2016 & 2017.

On the back of a successful tour wowing full-house crowds from the Blue Mountains to Wollongong and everywhere in between last year, it seems only right that the rest of the nation gets a chance to see this Logie Award Winning living legend up close and very personals – including the town where her comedy career kicked off, of course!

The new show sees Effie holding up a mirror to the complexities of finding love and keeping it in the modern age of digital dating. Newly married to Shane Bradley Cooper, Effie is experiencing what she calls the seventh-month itch. The urge to swipe right is tempting even to those with the greatest of willpowers. Who isn’t on Tinder? Is it possible to be smokin’ hot and hit upon every day and still stay faithful? Is it love at first sight or love at first swipe? If I had you at hello then why can’t I get rid of you at goodbye? If love don’t cost a thing then why is divorce so expensive?

“Everywhere I go men are sniffing around me like beagles at an airport,” she says. “I’m trying to control my animal urges, but this inner beast, this vulvarine has taken hold of me!”

Don’t miss this opportunity to laugh out loud along to Effie’s Tinder tales live on stage in Geelong!

Show date:
Saturday 4th April – Drama Theatre, Geelong Arts Centre, Geelong VIC (7pm) | Tickets
