Out Of The Box – Art Show & Inclusion Space

Posted 1 November 2018

Each year, City of Greater Geelong proudly celebrates Inclusion Week and International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD). This is an opportunity for communities, organisations and individuals to celebrate abilities, help break down barriers and acknowledge our City’s inclusive culture.

From mid-November to mid-December, Council’s Community Inclusion team will install a Pop Up Gallery and Inclusion Space in central Geelong. Located in the Renew Geelong Concept Space in Moorabool Street, the gallery will host an art show called OUT OF THE BOX – a collaborative exhibition comprising of new work from artists with disability. OUT OF THE BOX showcases the many talents and successes of Geelong’s clever, creative and inclusive community.

Six art studios from across Geelong will be represented, including Art Gusto, Karingallery, Rachinger Gallery, Art’sKool, Nelson Park and Barwon Valley. Art work will be for sale with all funds going directly to the artist.

The exhibition will be curated by CHELA EDMUNDS. Chela has an impressive career in art, fashion and design working in London, Paris, Tokyo and New York as a highly respected textile designer for brands including DKNY, Vera Wang, Siki Im and other key labels. She is co-founder of Guild of Objects and currently works as a ceramic artist and teacher, facilitating workshops at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne University and in New York.
