Pick My Project $1.37m Success for Geelong

Congratulations to the successful applicants to the Pick My Project grant rounds.

Local initiatives were awarded $1.37 million in ‘Pick My Project’ funding

Two City of Greater Geelong-partnered projects are among several local initiatives awarded funding as part of this year’s ‘Pick My Project’ grants program.

A total of 13 projects in the Greater Geelong region were successful, and will receive a combined $1.37 million in state government grants.
Under the ‘Pick My Project’ initiative, Victorians were invited to vote for their three favourite project ideas in their local community.
In the Barwon Region therre were:

  • 22 Successful projects
  • $2,685,394 $ Allocated
  • 300,492 Population
  • 14,724 Votes

During the five-week voting period, 3580 votes were cast in Greater Geelong, with the 13 grant recipients emerging on top from a field of 72 proposed projects.

The Drysdale Clifton Springs Curlewis Association has also been awarded $200,000 for its project, The Springs Dell Boardwalk, which will provide walking access and preservation of the Heritage Springs site in Clifton Springs.
Other successful projects include Humans in Geelong, which has received over $51,000 to publish their book of local residents’ stories, and ‘Healthy Food, Healthy Mood!’ – which has been awarded $82,000 to deliver a free healthy eating program to up to 10,000 local children.

The free community event, the Humans in Geelong Expo, was held on Sunday 7th October at Deakin Waterfront was a HUGE celebration and the 45 exhibitors, 17 inspiring speakers, 12 uplifting performances, music, dancing and children’s activities were very well attended indeed. Full program: https://humansingeelong.com/humans-in-geelong-expo-2018

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Bruce Harwood said, “Congratulations to all grant recipients. The projects are very worthy of support and will be welcomed by local communities across Greater Geelong.

There are some truly innovative ideas addressing a range of important issues, which is reflective of our community’s clever and creative mindset, and desire to make a positive difference.”
