Word for Word’s Amazing 2017 Line-up

Posted 19 October 2017

The Word for Word National Non-Fiction Festival will once again be presented at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre over three days from 17 – 19 November 2017. This year’s festival will host more than 70 guest presenters discussing topics ranging from climate change to feminism, sport to sexuality, racism, biography, adventure and Indigenous culture.

Day one will see an expanded series of writing masterclasses take the program across the region with sessions in venues from the Golden Plains to the Bellarine, the suburbs of Geelong and on the Surf Coast.

For the first time, the festival will feature acclaimed Australian songwriters and poets whose stories are drawn from lived experience. The great debate returns on the topic of ‘fiction is a fancy work for lying’ and a special musical salon event featuring Rob Snarski and Charles Jenkins wraps up day two.

Going beneath the surface, the festival this year will explore the intersection between fiction and non-fiction with a rare opportunity to meet and hear internationally-acclaimed, US-based Australian writer Peter Carey. Australian literary icon Frank Moorhouse will appear with his biographer for a discussion of the ethics of biography and painting a colourful life.

Other names in this year’s amazing line-up of presenters include: Julian Burnside, John Safran, Anna Broinowski, Tracey Spicer, Anna Krien, Peter FitzSimons, John Marsden, Alice Pung, Benjamin Law, Susan Carland, Jelena Dokic, Caroline Baum, Chris Masters, Marie Munkara and many, many more!
